Dear Mr. Ambassador,
I would like to draw your attention to the case of documentary filmmaker Dhondup Wangchen, who was arrested on 23 March 2008 in Tibet. To the best of my knowledge, he was simply exercising his right to freedom of expression, as guaranteed by the Chinese constitution. I therefore call on you to take steps to ensure that he is released and all the charges against him are dropped.
Sincerely,
Il y a 836 signatures.
Tibetan filmmaker Dhondup Wangchen was arrested by the Chinese authorities on 23 March 2008 while making a documentary in Tibet.
Wangchen’s 25-minute documentary, Leaving Fear Behind (www.leavingfearbehind.com), shows Tibetans in the Amdo region expressing their views on the Dalai Lama, the Beijing Olympics and Chinese legislation.
His wife, Lhamo Tso, says he has always been “a very active man who has always wanted to do something for Tibet.” Shortly before his arrest, Wangchen said: “It is very difficult for Tibetans to go to Beijing and express themselves freely. This is why we decided to show the real feelings of the Tibetan people in a documentary.”
